An Oxford church's major plans for a new building, 20 flats and a four-bed house have been delayed for several years over the terms of the legal agreement.

Holy Family Church, in Blackbird Leys, first revealed plans to update their building in 2018.

As well as the refurbished buildings, the scheme includes 10 one-bed flats and 10 two-bed flats.

However, Oxford City Council has said the discussions of the scheme are ongoing. A spokesman said: “The application completion has been delayed whilst we discuss the terms of the legal agreement.

"These discussions are ongoing.”

Since the planning application was put forward in 2018, several campaign groups have objected to its demolition.

In 2019, the Oxford Preservation Trust said: “The existing Grade-II Listed Church building is the only listed building located within Blackbird Leys and as such plays an important role in the local area’s heritage.”

The most recent document uploaded to the city council's planning portal was in May 2021. It is a handwritten comment from Joy Anderson which said: “The new building being built will be a new church can I ask?

"That it be considered to be a traditional church like a nice country church, that will look like a church and with beautiful stained glass windows. I feel strongly about this.”

Holy Family Church has been contacted for a comment.
