A revamped Headington pub has reopened for drinkers with a new look inside.

The Britannia Inn in London Road now has a brighter, more contemporary look, with a redesigned bar, new soft furnishings and an expanded dining space.

The pub, run by Ember Inns, offers a fixed price menu with three courses available for £11.79 from 12pm–5pm, Monday to Friday and £14.99 after 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Staff have updated the menu to include a wide range of new dishes, including Chicken Schnitzel, Rainbow Lasagne and Cheese and Bacon Burger, and steaks.

There is also a fixed price Sunday lunch menu with up to three courses available, and guests are able to add a three sides bundle of Cauliflower Cheese, Stuffing wrapped in Bacon and Yorkshire Puddings for only £6.49.

Faye Szilvasi, general manager at the Britannia Inn, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome guests, both familiar faces and new friends, to experience our pub’s new look, whilst keeping the cosy feel of the Britannia Inn we all know and love.”

The Britannia Inn is dog-friendly, with dogs allowed in the bar area and beer garden.

'Bottomless brunch' is 10am-2pm every Saturday and Sunday for only £20 per person.

'Bottomless Friday nights' take place from 5pm–10pm every Friday and include two courses for only £30 per person. Booking is essential.

In 2019, the pub became the proud new owner of a blue plaque.

A presentation took place 126 years to the day after Dr Robert Hitchings convened the meeting at which the then-named Headington FC was formed in what was considered a village.

(Image: Ember Inns) The 16-inch circular plaque said: "Oxford United Football Club, founded here as Headington FC, 27th October 1893. The former Manor Ground opposite was its home 1925 – 2001."

The installation of the plaque was a project initiated by the Oxford United Supporters Trust, OxVox.

Due to the Britannia pub being a Grade II listed building, the plaque needed special permission.

In 1925 Headington FC moved to the Manor Ground directly opposite the Britannia Inn, which was their home until the team, known as Oxford United from 1960, moved to the Kassam Stadium in 2001.

Speaking at the plaque ceremony, club managing director Niall McWilliams said: "It's a real honour.

"I just think it indicates the impact that the football club has on the community."
