An Oxfordshire parkrun is inviting runners to celebrate 20 years of the event this weekend.

Bicester parkrun will celebrate the national milestone this Saturday (October 5) at 9am at Langford Fields, Langford Village.

Parkrun is a free, community 5k run and takes place every Saturday morning at 1,281 locations around the country.

This year marks 20 years since parkrun’s founder, Paul Sinton-Hewitt, organised the Bushy Park Time Trial that evolved into parkrun.

Since then, more than 2,200 parkruns have been set up in 23 countries around the world.

A statement on the event's Facebook page, created by Bicester parkrun, said: "We're inviting you to invite someone who's never been to parkrun, or someone who hasn't been for a little while.

"Let's share the love of our fabulous community and have a bumper - first timers welcome.

"Walk, jog, run, volunteer or simply whoop and holler while watching what it's all about."

Last weekend the run was cancelled due to wet weather and organisers are advising runners to check the cancellations list before the event this weekend.
