A range of new bridges and access roads are set to be permitted in association with planned development for more than 1,400 homes.

The new infrastructure is set to be decided alongside Oxford University College Christ Church and Dorchester Residential Management's scheme for 1,450 new homes at Bayswater Brook to the north of Barton.

The bridges and access will be decided as a separate planning application by South Oxfordshire District Council's planning committee on Wednesday, October 9.

Plans for new access roads (Image: South Oxfordshire District Council) The development includes a new A40 cycle and pedestrian bridge, new access onto Elsfield Lane, two accesses onto Bayswater Road, two new public transport crossing bridges over the Bayswater Brook and five pedestrian/cycle bridges over the Bayswater Brook.

Some 44 public objections have been submitted with reasons including overdevelopment and an increase in vehicle movements.

However, planning officers are recommending it for permission along with the main development scheme.

In the officers' report, it said: “From a technical design and layout perspective, the access and connectivity proposals set out in this application accord with the requirements of OCC Highways as the Local Highway Authority. The proposals would not detrimentally effect the Oxford View Cone or any designated or non-designated heritage assets. The proposals would also accord with the Local Plan policies relating to ecology and biodiversity net gain, the Green Belt and flooding and drainage.”
