The largest RAF base in the UK has held an event to "reassess practices" and ensure "operational excellence".

RAF Brize Norton, in Carterton, held its Total Safety Day, which aims to reinforce the importance of safety in every aspect of operations at the base and ensure all personnel operate in the safest possible environment, on September 19.

Sergeant Williams, one of the event organisers, said: "At RAF Brize Norton, safety is a fundamental part of our operational excellence.

"This event highlights the importance of continuous learning and the shared responsibility we all have to keep ourselves, our colleagues, and our operations safe."

The event featured safety stalls covering topics such as aviation safety, road safety, and fire safety.

Two safety awards were presented to Sergeant Williams and Sergeant West for their "diligence and professionalism" in identifying and reporting safety issues.

There were also interactive demonstrations with the road safety team using VR sets and a quiz which allowed participants to identify hazards within a mock office set-up.
