A person has been hit and killed by a train on the rail line from Swindon to Didcot Parkway, police have confirmed.
British Transport Police (BTP) said it was called to an area of the line in Swindon at around 1.10pm today (Thursday, September 26) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
Paramedics also attended the scene.
Great Western Railway services between Swindon and Didcot Parkway were cancelled, delayed or diverted with disruption expected until 5.30pm.
Chiltern Railways continued to run services between Oxford and London Paddington.
Tickets for Cross Country and Elizabeth Line services were accepted on other reasonable routes.
GWR said it was working to deal with the incident "as sensitively, quickly and safely as possible".
A BTP spokesperson said: "Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
The gender and age of the person remains unknown at this stage.
