An Oxfordshire town and the surrounding villages have been hit badly by flooding this week which has left residents feeling concerned.

Schools around the county were forced to close as Oxford experienced its highest amount of rainfall in more than 50 years between Sunday (September 22) and Monday (September 23).

Transport services were impacted, with bus diversions in place and train delays due to the heavy rainfall.

A field in Bicester on the Greenwood Homes estate, known locally as 'dangerfield', was underwater on Monday.

Resident Laura Jane said: "I’ve never seen it as high as it currently is.

"The dog bins have their bottoms in the water and the normal bins are just sticking their heads above the water."

Sarah Walbyoff, who lives on Beckdale Close on Greenwood Homes, said the street has now flooded twice in the last four years.

Residents also reported flooding under the railway bridge on Buckingham Road, which reportedly "always floods".

Bucknell, a village near Bicester, was also impacted particularly badly by the rainfall.

Many residents were left feeling concerned as their gardens and houses flooded, including Jane Quibbell, who experience flooding initially in her garden which then seeped into her house.

When her garden flooded she told the Oxford Mail: "I can’t get to the back yet as it’s pretty deep.

"This keeps happening year in year out drains are overflowing again and not coping with the amount of rain.

"The damage to property caused is immense and people have had enough."

"Luckily it has never made it to the front door. Sadly others in Bucknell do get badly flooded. Proper welly day."

A statement on the Facebook page said: "Currently our summer and winter routes are under water, we are hoping this will recede over the next couple of days.

"Please check Facebook and the parkrun cancellations page for updates."
