A fish and chip shop in Oxfordshire has been told to improve its hygiene following a snap inspection.
Smarts Fish and Chips on High Street in Wallingford serves a variety of traditional chip shop meals in the town.
A hygiene inspection was held on Thursday, August 8, with the eatery scoring a disappointing two-out-of-five food hygiene rating.
The team were told that improvement was 'necessary' at the venue in order to achieve a higher score in the future.

A major failing according to the inspector on the day was Smarts’ hygienic handling of food which was rated as needing 'improvement'.
This section of criteria includes the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage of the food served.
Despite this shortcoming, the cleanliness and condition of facilities and building were rated as “generally satisfactory”.
This refers to having an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene.

Similarly, Smarts’ management of food safety was also seen as being “generally satisfactory” on the day of the inspection.
This refers to having a system or checks in place to ensure that the food sold or served is safe to eat and if there is evidence that staff know about food safety.
It also details whether or not the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
