A cyclist in his 70s remains in critical condition following a hit-and-run in Oxfordshire as witnesses are urged to come forward. 

The incident happened on the A4130 near Halifax Road in Wallingford between 6am and 6.10am on Monday morning (September 16).

A man, aged in his 70s, was struck by a white van, which had no sign writing on it and was clean.

The driver of the van did not stop at the scene and the cyclist was taken to hospital.

Police said his injuries in the first instance were not believed to be serious, however since then his condition has deteriorated significantly.

Thames Valley Police today (September 18) confirmed the driver remains in a critical condition. 

Sergeant Chris Liddicott of the Joint Operations Road Policing Unit said: “We are continuing to investigate the circumstances of this collision.

“The driver of the van has yet to come forward.

"Following further investigation we believe the van could be a number of long wheel based vans.

“I am appealing to anybody who was driving on this stretch of road this morning and witnessed the incident, or who may have dash-cam footage, to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police.

“Additionally we would also ask anyone who has seen a white long wheel based van, with fresh damage to the passenger side to please come forward.

“I would also like to appeal directly to the driver of the van to contact us.
