A city centre bar in Oxford served ice cream-inspired cocktails to mark a special anniversary.

The Alchemist can be found on the upper level of the city’s Westgate shopping centre after opening in October 2017.

In August, the bar celebrated the 10th anniversary of its Screwball cocktail and released two special variants to mark the occasion.

I was lucky enough to be invited along to try the new tipples and it is safe to say that they did not disappoint.

“The Screwball,” a playful and refreshing blend of Absolut Raspberri Vodka, Blue Curacao, Fresh Lime Juice, Apple Juice, and Bubble Gum Syrup, topped with decadent White Chocolate Foam and a Maraschino Cherry, has become a staple on The Alchemist’s menu over the past decade.

Its combination of nostalgia and innovation captures the essence of The Alchemist’s approach to mixology, making it a fan favourite since its debut.

“The Brill”, which was a riff on Fab ice lollies, featured Absolut Vanilia Vodka, Chocolate Rim, Licor 43, and Funkin Strawberry Puree.

It was incredibly sweet and my least favourite of the trio but it was still pleasant enough to sip at.

The “Mint Choc Chip” was definitely my favourite as it featured a delightful mix of Absolut Vanilia Vodka, Chocolate Cookie Syrup, Briottet Creme De Menthe Blanc, Apple Juice, and Mint Choc Foam.

It was like an ice cream in a glass but with a refreshing kick on the aftertaste.

The drinks acted as a great dessert having had the chicken and chips on the menu earlier which remains my favourite meal available at The Alchemist.

Served with slaw and in a chicken-shaped basket, the meal is tasty, well-presented and plentiful.

The cocktails rounded off another lovely lunch trip to The Alchemist which, in my opinion, is one of the better options in the city to grab a bite to eat or have a couple of cocktails.
