Didcot and Wantage's MP opened a new cabin and play area at a nursery last week.

Little Fishes Nursery, in Milton Hill, opened in September 2023 and is owned by husband and wife, Sam and Natalia Peris.

Didcot has been identified by Oxfordshire County Council as having a shortage of early years childcare spaces.

To meet this demand, the nursery built a new cabin with a landscaped outdoor play area for children under 18-months-old, in time for the new academic year.

The new facility was opened on Monday, September 2, by Olly Glover, who cut a ribbon alongside Mrs Peris, her one-year-old son, and deputy manager Debbie.

Mr Glover, who lives in Milton Village, arrived on his bike and was given a tour of the nursery.

He also engaged with the children and learned about the day-to-day operations of a day nursery.

He said: "Childcare is an important topic in parliament, which needs continued attention over the coming years."

During his visit, he took an interest in the new early years working parent funding that has been rolled out by the government and its impact.

Mr Peris said: “The new government funding is going to be extremely beneficial to working families, however it feels rushed and the government has not done anything significant to underpin the industry, leaving a lack of early years educators."
