A rare prototype Mini replacement will be on display at a car event near Bicester.

The British Motor Museum's 9X prototype will be showcased at Bicester Heritage's sold-out Scramble event on Sunday, October 6.

The event in Launton will be the last Scramble of 2024 and will run from 9am to 4pm.

It will bring together hundreds of classic vehicle enthusiasts to see curated displays, classic cars, motorbikes and other vehicles.

The 9X will be displayed alongside an early Mini ‘R50’ hatch, which has become one of the best-loved retro-style designs of the new millennium.

The 9X was designed by the British Motor Corporation and car designer Alec Issigonis.

It was intended to be the replacement for the original Mini but never went into mass production.

Unlike the original Mini, the it had a boxy shape similar to the small hatchbacks that later became popular.

It was also designed to be smaller than the original Mini and to use a new, lighter engine.

However, due to various issues within the British Motor Corporation, the 9X never made it beyond the prototype stage and as a result, the original Mini continued to be produced for many more years.

The British Motor Corporation's failure to act in time allowed smaller cars from Volkswagen, Peugeot, and Fiat to become popular a few years later.
