An Oxford MP has organised a walk to raise the profile of the campaign to reopen the Cowley Branch Line.

Labour MP for Oxford east, Anneliese Dodds, was joined by Chiltern Railways and Oxford Business Park bosses on a walk in 2018 to outline the impact the rail service could have in the clogged city.

The tour in 2018 took roads alongside the railway line from Cowley to Littlemore, to Hinksey Park, to Devil’s Backbone and then Oxford Station.

She has now organised another walk, which will be held on Friday, September 13 starting at approximately 9.30am at the BMW Plant.

The 6.7 mile walk will end at approximately 2pm at Oxford train station.

The walk will entail various stops along the way, including Oxford Business Park (ARC Oxford), Oxford Science Park, and Oxford train station.

This follows the news last year that work has started on a full business case and outline designs.

At the beginning of this year Oxford City Council gave the green light to a half a million pound contract that will go towards design work around the two proposed stations of the Cowley Branch Line at Littlemore and Blackbird Leys in south and east Oxford.

The line is only used by freight going to and from the BMW Mini Plant and has been closed to passengers since 1963.
