Free swimming lessons for children of all ages will be available in Oxford this weekend.

Barton Leisure Centre is hosting its inaugural Big Splash Day on Saturday, September 7.

The aquatics-themed event will offer a range of activities, including the children's swimming lessons and a treasure hunt with the prize of a three-month membership at the centre.

There will also be two chances for customers to try the centre’s new pool inflatable for free.

Jess Ramsay, swim manager for More Leisure Community Trust, which manages Barton Leisure Centre, as well as four other centres in the city, said: "I would encourage local families to take advantage of our Big Splash Day, where we provide free access to a range of pool-based sessions, plus a variety of other fun activities."

The Big Splash Day coincides with the relaunch of swimming lessons at the centre.

Ms Ramsay added: "Many customers have asked for the return of lessons at the centre, so we’re delighted to announce that from next month, you’ll have the chance to attend sessions run by our expert swim teacher team.
