A local children’s hospice is asking people to sign up for its fifth bubbly family fun run to raise vital funds.

Helen and Douglas House has held the Bubble Rush, which is a 5k family fun with thousands of multi-coloured bubbles.

It will be taking place in the grounds of Cokethorpe School in Witney on Sunday, September 15 and over 1,750 people have signed up already.

The route will be three 1.6k loops, meaning you get covered in bubbles twelve times.

If 5k is too far you can peel off after one or two loops.

Entry is open to all ages and it’s up to you whether you walk, run, or even toddle the family-friendly route.

Hannah Heyworth, whose son Luke is cared for by Helen & Douglas House, is urging families to sign up to take part in the charity’s foamy fun run

Ms Heyworth and her husband Matthew, Luke, brother William aged 5 and sister Darcey aged 4, live in Faringdon and have been supported by Helen & Douglas House since 2019 and took part in the Bubble Rush last year.

They had a team of multiple friends and family taking part raising £934 with Hannah’s work then contributing an additional £250.

Luke is 9 years old and has a rare genetic mutation called STXBP1 which effects the neurotransmitters in his brain.

Ms Heyworth said: “Helen & Douglas House has supported our son Luke together with the family as a whole for many years.

“They provide invaluable support, medical and nursing care, symptom management and respite and are a lifeline to our family plus many others.

“Helen & Douglas House improves the lives of local terminally ill children and their families. The amazing care they provide makes it possible for families to create happy memories which last forever.

“They are a local charity and need to raise £6m each year to fund care and cannot do that without your help.

“The Bubble Rush last year was absolutely amazing. It was the first time we had done it as we had some reservations about being able to get Luke around the course given he uses a wheelchair, but it was fully accessible.

“People were also incredibly helpful and friendly. The atmosphere was electric and very collegiate.

“Everyone was laughing and smiling and having so much fun. It is something the whole family can enjoy together.

Bex Shawsun, Event Manager from Helen & Douglas House said ‘We are so excited to be coming back to Cokethorpe School for this year’s Bubble Rush this year and to be able to offer 25 per cent off to everyone who signs up.

“By taking part in our Bubble Rush you will make a real difference to the lives of local terminally ill children and their families.

"The money raised could help fund our siblings programme for a year for children like William and Darcey as they grow up.

"They will be able to enjoy fun activities like treasure hunts and outings, giving them the chance to make new friends going through similar experiences, so they don’t feel alone or isolated.”
