A nurse who works near Banbury said it is "amazing" to be recognised for his "hard work" after winning a regional carer's award.

Sundarraj Kalidoss, who works at Glebefields care home in Drayton, was crowned Learner of the Year for the central division in the Barchester Care Awards 2024.

The awards recognise the efforts of staff caring for 13,000 residents in Barchester’s 261 care homes and private hospitals across the country.

Mr Kalidoss said: "It’s amazing to be recognised for all the hard work and the time invested in the last two years.

"The journey from relocating to the UK, becoming a senior carer, then care practitioner and finally a registered nurse in the UK had been incredible.

"This would not have been easy without the right guidance and support from the team, colleagues and the management.

"I am really thankful to everyone who has been part of this beautiful journey of mine."

As the winner for the central division, Mr Kalidoss is now through to the national finals.

The home's general manager, Nisha Shaji, said: "This is an amazing achievement and the whole home is supporting Sundarraj.

"Sundarraj had been very well deserving for this recognition - especially for the hard work he has put in throughout his journey with Glebefields since 2022.

"His eye for detail and the hunger to learn and empower others with his knowledge is commendable."
