A pizza place in Oxfordshire has been criticised over its cleanliness by hygiene inspectors.

Caffe Gloria on Church Lane on Greyhound Walk in Thame was visited by South Oxfordshire District Council’s Environmental Health team on Thursday, July 25.

The pizzeria serves Italian cuisine which is inspired by the owner’s family heritage spanning to the island of Ischia near Capri in the Bay of Naples.

Inspectors were left unimpressed with the hygiene standards inside, handing the business a lowly two-out-of-five food hygiene rating.

The environmental health team stated that improvement was “necessary” at the spot.

One major issue was the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and the building also required “necessary” improvement.

This refers to having an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.

Despite the other issues, inspectors did report that the management of food safety at Caffe Gloria was “generally satisfactory”.

This regards having a system or checks in place to ensure that the food sold or served is safe to eat and if there is evidence that staff know about food safety.

It also details whether or not the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.

The hygienic handling of food including the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage of food served onsite was also rated as “generally satisfactory.”
