A walking football club have received a donation of hundreds of pounds following a care home's summer fete.

Albany Care Home, in Headington, raised £200 to support Oxford United Walking Football Club through the event.

This money was used to sponsor the club's Walkathon - a 21-hour walking challenge in support of children with Down's Syndrome.

The summer fete was "a vibrant and well-attended event, with residents, staff, and the local community coming together to support a cause close to their hearts," the care home said.

The contribution will further boost the walking football club's ongoing efforts to positively shape the lives of children with Down's Syndrome.

In addition, the funds will promote the benefits of walking football, a sport tailored for men aged over 50 and women above 18.

The variation of the popular sport seeks to offer participants a chance to keep active, socialise, and enjoy the game in a supportive setting.

Albany Care Home extended its heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to the fundraising effort, emphasising their generosity will help to keep the spirit of football alive.

The home said it looks forward to continuing its support for initiatives and fostering strong connections within the community.

Oxford United Walking Football Club offers sessions to different groups on Wednesday evenings, Friday evenings, and Saturday mornings.
