A total of 60 Oxford Half Marathon runners will be taking part for a charity which supports people with learning disabilities and autism.

They will be running for Yellow Submarine on October 13 alongside 13,000 other runners.

Yellow Submarine assists people with mild to moderate needs in various ways, including activity days, social clubs and traineeship cafes.

Yellow Submarine café supervisor, Anna Dashwood, one of the 60 runners, said: "I've been working at the Oxford Yellow Submarine Cafe supporting trainees for a year now.

"It's been amazing to see the positive changes in these young people. They learn so much; customer service skills, the expectations of the workplace and, importantly, they build positive interactions with peers, staff and the wider community.

“I have chosen to take on the half marathon as a challenge for myself but also to raise money for this charity which really believes in giving opportunities to young people with learning disabilities and autism so they can live life to the full.”

The charity aims to assist those who leave school with limited life skills, which can lead to isolation.

It has two social enterprise cafes, in Oxford and Witney, allowing its trainees to gain work experience in a safe and fast-paced environment.

General entries for the event are full, but some charity spots are still open through other official charity partners.
