A Didcot charity is set to be boosted by a fundraiser's 1,000km walk from France to Spain.
Andy Evans, who works as a food sourcing officer at SOFEA (South Oxfordshire Food and Education Alliance), who he is raising money for, will set off from St Jean-Pied-de-Port in southwest France on September 10.
He will travel through the Pyrenees Mountains before arriving at the finish at the Altar of the Sun in Finisterre, northwest Spain.
He is aiming to raise £5,000 to fund a young person’s journey at SOFEA for a year and has set up a fundraising page, which has received £778 so far.
Founded in 2013, the charity works to support vulnerable young people who face an array of emotional and behavioural challenges which can make academic attainment and steady employment difficult.
Mr Evans said: "The reason that I’m doing it, first and foremost, is to try and raise enough money to put an extra young person through the SOFEA programme.
"That would usually cost around £5,000, so I’m hoping to raise £5,000 for that cause."
By tailoring educational and employment support to each young person SOFEA works with, the charity has a proven track record of getting vulnerable young people their GCSE qualifications and into meaningful work.
