COWLEY Road Carnival's triumphant comeback at the weekend has been branded a "success".
Making its return after five years, thousands of people lined the streets on Sunday (September 1) to enjoy the wide range of music, food, stalls and entertainment.
A procession opened the event, which featured 25 groups and more than 600 participants, celebrating the cultural diversity of Oxford.
Oxford City Council says it played a crucial role in the success of the event by support in the form of funding, event logistics, organisation, and promotion.
A statement from Oxford City Council said: "This year’s carnival was brought to life by the hard work and dedication of the Cowley Road Works carnival team, spearheaded by its artistic director, in collaboration with key partners such as Oxford City Council and Global Carnivalz.
"The combined efforts ensured a fun, safe, and inclusive experience for everyone involved.
"This assistance underscores the council’s commitment to enhancing community engagement and supporting local cultural projects.

"Other important partners included Thames Valley Police, Oxford Direct Services (ODS), and various businesses along Cowley Road."
Labour MP for Oxford East, Anneliese Dodds, attended the event.
She said: “It was wonderful to see all of Oxford’s communities out enjoying the Cowley Road carnival on Sunday.
"After five years without the full carnival running, it was lovely to be able to be together in person once again.
"A big thanks to Pax Nindi and all of the volunteers, performers, businesses and other organisations who made the carnival such a success."
City councillor Emily Kerr also attended the carnival and praised the organisers.
Ms Kerr said: "I thought the atmosphere was amazing and the organisers did such a good job.
"It had a real party atmosphere, and there was just such a positive vibe.
"It was a lovely close to the summer and I really hope it comes back again next year."
Cowley Road Works chairperson, Roy McEwen said: “We greatly appreciate the support from the Arts Council, Oxford Brookes, BMW Mini, and Global Carnivalz.

"The energy and joy this event brings to the east Oxford community is truly inspiring to see.
"We’re proud to support events like this that bring communities together and celebrate the incredible diversity of our city.”
