A team of firefighters are set to climb the equivalent height of both World Trade Centre towers as a tribute to all those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks in New York.

The group members, most of whom are from Slade Park Fire Station, in Headington, will be supported by firefighters from surrounding stations on the day and will undertake the challenge while wearing full fire kit and breathing apparatus.

On September 14, at Oxford's Westgate Shopping Centre, each team member will climb 220 floors on a static stairmaster to raise funds for the Fire Fighters Charity.

The charity supports fire and rescue service personnel across the country, as well as their families, with both their physical and mental health.

Crew manager, James Crook, said: "Raising vital funds like this for the Fire Fighters Charity allows the charity to continue to support firefighters and their families not only when we need them the most and when we are at our lowest, but at all stages of our life.

"This allows us to be physically and mentally well, at work and at home, and allows us to continue being there for our communities, when they are in their hour of need."

Following the climb, the firefighters will run out 343 lengths of fire hose as a tribute to all the firefighters who lost their lives during 9/11.
