A man in his 30s sustained facial injuries and required hospital treatment after being punched and kneed in the head, police say.

Thames Valley Police has released an image of an individual officers would like to speak to in relation to the assault in Banbury, which happened at around 3am on August 11 on Broad Street.

Police say a man in his 30s entered a shop to buy a bottle of water, where the offender was in the shop trying to purchase alcohol.

The offender was refused service by the shop owner and the victim then began speaking with the shop owner, which "agitated the offender".

Police say the offender then "assaulted the victim by punching and kneeing the victim to his head before making off towards the train station", leaving him with "facial injuries which required hospital treatment".

He has since been discharged.

Investigating officer PC Matthew Whitehead, based at Banbury police station, said: “We are appealing to anyone who may recognise the individual in this image to please get in touch as he may have vital information about this incident.

“This incident happened during the busy night time economy in Banbury, as people would have been making their way home.
