A local Olympian made an appearance at an 80's tribute band concert in Oxfordshire at the weekend.

Kieran Bird, a swimmer from Bicester, made an appearance at the Sledgehammer performance with his Olympic gold medal on Saturday (August 31) at Garth Park.

He offered to take pictures with concert-goers and even did a short interview on stage.

Mr Bird played a huge part in Team GB winning a gold medal at the Paris Olympic Games in July by helping the team win the heat to get through to the final.

The team then won gold in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay final on July 30.

This was Team GB's first Olympic gold in the pool.

Speaking to the Oxford Mail previously, Mr Bird described competing in the Games this year as "a great honour".

He was one of thousands who attended the Sledgehammer concerts in August.

Sledgehammer is comprised of Russ Fray on lead vocals, Simon Bays on lead guitar, Alex Grout on bass and Phil Heard playing the drums.

The performance on Saturday was a sell-out following another sell-out earlier this month.

The band, who describe themselves as 'Oxfordshire's finest 80s tribute band', said over the two performances they played to around 3,200 people.

They have been performing since 2019, making this year their fifth year.
