A day of live music performances at a pub in south Oxfordshire will raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

The Flowing Spring country pub and music venue in Playhatch, near Reading, is holding a free event to celebrate original songwriters and their music.

It will be staged in the pub's large garden on Saturday, September 14 and eight acts will be performing.

Nick Willson, who owns the pub with his wife Hazel Lucas, said: "We're well known for the high standard of live music here.

"During the summer months we tend to put on tribute acts, so it's right that we acknowledge the talents of original songwriters on this special day, the finale to our Gigs in the Garden season.

"It's free entry as we want as many people as possible to come along and be introduced to some artists."

The event, called Hats Off to the Writers, features soloists, a duo, a trio and larger bands performing a range of music genres on the Rose Stage.

The acts are (* denotes local acts):
•    1:30pm Huw Tarry* (solo, acoustic guitar)
•    2:15pm Kris & Minch* (duo, guitar and double bass)
•    3pm: Lawrie Wright* (solo, piano and guitar)
•    3:45pm: Savour the Flavour* (6-piece, folk)
•    5pm: Steve Morano and his Band* (6-piece, country blues)

There will be food and a bar and entry is free. Parking is limited so the pub is encouraging gig goers to find alternative ways to get there.

Following the event, the pub converts the stage into a smaller, intimate venue called The Acoustic Lounge where it will be holding concerts throughout the autumn and winter.

Already booked are Xander and the Peace Pirates, Flint Moore, Jewels & the Jacuzzis, Kings & Bears and the Sing-along-a-Nicktivity Christmas shows.
