A pet store in Abingdon has been named after a Jack Russell called Freddie.

Freddie's Pet Store is a new store off Stratton Way which opened in April, following the closure of Seeneys pet store in Coxeter's Yard.

Seeneys served customers for 30 years in Abingdon before closing and still has a store in Weston-on-the-Green neat Bicester.

Lee Thomas, a regular customer at Seeneys, wanted Abingdon town centre to keep a pet store, and launched Freddie's.

Staff member Meg Phillips, who owns Freddie, said customers have been very supportive since the store opened.

She added: "Customers who got their pet supplies from Seeneys for years have come to us.

"We supply food for poultry, horses, cats, dogs and guinea pigs.

"Freddie is always here at the shop and customers love to see him so we thought it would be a good idea to name the store after him."

Freddie is a 17-month-old Jack Russell Cocker Spaniel Cross.

Ms Phillips, who worked at Seeneys for 17 years, added: "I think people like having a pet store in the town centre - we know 90 per cent of our customers."

Paul Wiseman, also a long-serving staff member at Seeneys, works with Ms Phillips at Freddie's. Tara Turner works there part-time.
