A road in Oxfordshire remains shut after weeks of HS2 closures and will close again later this year.

The A418 Oxford Road near Aylesbury has been closed since Friday, August 16 for road realignment works by HS2.

It is expected to reopen on Monday, September 2 but will then close again three more times in the October to November period.

The works had already started in July but will not culminate in the reopening of the new section of road until November this year.

Part of the old A418 Oxford Road will remain for residents' access only.

A HS2 spokesperson said: “We will be closing the A418 Oxford Road several times in order to bring the new road alignment we have been building into use.

“In order to complete the required work and reopen the road as swiftly as possible, we will be working 24 hours a day with consent from Buckinghamshire Council during these periods.”

Work to build an HS2 tunnel under Birmingham for the high-speed rail line has reached a milestone.

Although the northern leg of HS2 was scrapped in October, phase one will connect Birmingham with London, producing much shorter journey times.

But the project has been hit with long delays and spiralling costs.
