A 13-year-old cat who suffered a horrific head injury and lived on the streets for 10 years is in need of a new home.
Rocky, a tabby and white cat, was discovered earlier this year after a concerned member of the public alerted Cherwell Cats Protection.
The charity took the severely underweight cat to the vets for immediate medical attention.
A very old, untreated wound on his face was so deep it resulted in his face rotting away, and he suffered from dental problems.
Rocky was neutered and was put on antibiotics and pain relief medication. His face was cleaned, but it had to be left open to heal.
A spokesperson for Cherwell Cats Protection said: “Unfortunately Rocky’s story is all too common.
"After living on the streets for at least 10 years we would love to find a home for him where he can enjoy the life he deserves.
"As a carrier of FIV he needs an indoor home or a home with a cat-proof garden and he can only live with other cats with FIV.
"Cats with FIV have a life expectancy similar to cats without FIV and can remain asymptomatic for many years."
Rocky is also unable to live with children, but anyone who is interested in providing him with a new home can call the charity on 01869 908 308 or fill out the online form.
Despite his challenges, the charity reports Rocky, who was given his name due to his tough start to life, is "ready to find himself a loving home".
It added: "After fending for himself on the streets for 10 years we just cannot wait to find him a family to love him."
Rocky has recovered from his facial wound, the charity said, adding he is "back to his gorgeous self now".
After taking him off the streets, Cherwell Cats Protection said: "He’s starting a new chapter of his life so we wanted to give him a completely fresh start and new name.
"Just looking at him, you can see what a very tough time he’s had.
"Despite the fact he must be in agony he absolutely loves fuss and gets so excited he can’t sit still when he sees you.
"We can’t wait to help him on his way to the life he deserves."
Cherwell Cats Protection support cats and kittens in the Cherwell area, covering Banbury, Bicester, Brackley, Chipping Norton.
