THE first hearing has taken place for a man accused of attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child.
Andrew Grant, of Queen Street, Bampton, appeared at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (August 27) charged with four offences.
The 58-year-old has been charged with attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, being an adult attempting to meet a girl following grooming, arranging or facilitating sexual activity with a child and driving without third party insurance.

Grant is accused of attempting to engage in sexual communication with a girl under the age of 16 – namely 14 - in Eynsham between November 22, 2022 and February 18, 2023.
Between the same dates, he is accused of trying to meet the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, at Oxford Train Station after a period of grooming.
Grant is also charged with allegedly arranging/facilitating commission of offence of a sexual activity with a child in Eynsham between the same dates.

His driving offences allegedly took place on February 18 last year in Park End Street, at Oxford Train Station in a Nissan X Trail.
Grant’s case has now been adjourned and sent to Oxford Crown Court after his first hearing.
He is due to appear in the upper court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on September 26.
