Firefighters in Oxfordshire raced to a wooded area to tackle a blaze.

The incident initially happened on Monday as crews from Witney Fire Station attended a set of hay bales alight on the meadows behind Sainsbury’s off Farm Mill Lane, Witney.

Releasing photos on social media, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service warned others about the incident and taking precautions.

A spokesperson for the service said: “Thanks to some eagle-eyed dog walkers the call was put in early so they have managed to prevent approximately 30 additional bales from being involved by creating a fire break.

“As a reminder to all that even though the weather hasn’t been summer-like recently we are expecting warmer, dryer weather this coming week so we urge you to take precautions when out in the countryside.”

Firefighters then were called back to the scene on Tuesday morning to deal with the issue again.

A spokesperson for the service added: "Our crews from Witney and Burford are currently tackling a number of hay bales on fire close to Farm Mill Lane in Witney.

"We have approximately 12 Firefighters working to extinguish the fire.

"We would recommend homes and businesses in the area keep doors and windows closed for the next few hours.

"We will update in due course."
