Plan for new barn-style homes in North Leigh near Witney

Applicant P Wickson and B Seely has applied to West Oxfordshire District Council to introduce the development on agricultural land at Common Farm in North Leigh near Witney.

This comes as permission had already been secured for the site but the applicant insisted the developments due to come forward were too "unconventional" and "unsustainable".

An applicant planning paper says: "The site has permission for five units accommodated within existing farm buildings.

"Whilst retaining the character of the farm, the resulting dwellings would be unconventional in design and layout and not sustainably constructed.

"The proposed development seeks to replace the approved scheme with a design akin to a former farm yard in largely the same location as the barns.

"The proposal would deliver two contemporary barn style properties, a detached farm house and two farm cottages constructed in a vernacular design and materials appropriate to the area.

"These would be replaced by a traditional courtyard arrangement of buildings akin to a former farmyard and associated buildings, and taking reference from the historic use of the site and surrounding land.

"The design of the dwellings is traditional in form."

A total of 13 car parking spaces are proposed which represents an increase in 10 from the existing three.

There are currently no cycle spaces on site but the applicant would like to add 34.
