A gourmet burger bar in Banbury has been criticised over its handling of food by hygiene inspectors.
RS Burger Shack on Church Lane in Banbury was visited by Cherwell District Council’s Environmental Health team on Wednesday, July 3.
The eatery is known locally for its gourmet burgers and fries but inspectors were left unimpressed with the hygiene standards inside.
Handing the business a lowly two-out-of-five food hygiene rating, the environmental health team stated that improvement was “necessary” at the spot.

One major issue was the team’s hygienic handling of food which also required improvement according to the report.
This includes the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage of food served onsite.
Additionally, the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and the building also required “necessary” improvement.
This refers to having an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.
Despite the other issues, inspectors did report that the management of food safety at RS Burger Shack was “generally satisfactory”.
