A village pub near Bicester has been slammed by hygiene inspectors.

The Bull Inn on Bicester Road in Launton was visited by Cherwell District Council’s Environmental Health team on Thursday, July 4.

Inspectors found the standards to be under the required standard leaving them to report that improvement was “necessary”.

The watering hole was subsequently awarded a damning two-out-of-five food hygiene score from the council’s team.

One major issue inside the pub was the hygienic handling of food which includes the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage of food onsite.

This was rated as requiring “necessary” improvement and brought the pub’s overall score down to a rating of two.

Elsewhere the cleanliness and condition of both the facilities and the building were then rated as “generally satisfactory”.

This includes having an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.

The Bull Inn’s management of food safety was also given the same rating following the snap inspection by the environmental health team.

This refers to whether there is a system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat.

It also concerns whether there is evidence that staff know about food safety and if the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
