Photos from the scene of a chemical leak in Oxford show the massive emergency response.

Emergency services were called to Oxford Ice Rink on Oxpens Road at around 9.35am this morning (Tuesday, August 20).

As many as five fire engines, five police cars and other fire service vehicles could be seen outside the leisure facility with blue lights on.

Police officers cordoned off the path around the ice rink as well as the bridges and woods behind the building as firefighters set up a 100m space.

The public was warned to avoid the area after the emergency services revealed that a chemical leak had occurred.

Thames Valley Police later confirmed in the afternoon that officer had been withdrawn as the chemical leak no longer posed a threat to the public.

A spokesperson for the force said: “We have now withdrawn all Police resources from the Oxford Ice Rink after a chemical incident.

“There is no wider danger to the public and all cordons have been lifted however the Ice Rink itself will remain closed.”
