Epilepsy Society has been announced as Banbury United's first major charity partner for the new season.

The club will now work with the charity to raise awareness and funds for the condition that impacts more than 600,000 people in the UK.

Epilepsy Society, which was present at a charity match on August 4, works to transform the lives of those suffering from epilepsy through research, advocacy and care.

The serious neurological condition, which affects the brain and nervous system, can cause more than 40 different types of seizure.

Not all of these are physical, which is why epilepsy is classed as an invisible condition.

Ellie Thornton, a patron for the charity who has sponsored and facilitated the partnership, said: "Working with Banbury United is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of epilepsy, as well as the incredible work that the people at Epilepsy Society do.

“Epilepsy is a condition that can so often be misunderstood, and I encourage people to reach out to the society for any and all help or support."

As part of the partnership, the charity will be matchday sponsors the club's home game against Leiston on Saturday, August 24.

Leaflets and information about the charity will be available in the clubhouse and Ms Thornton will be speaking about her experiences and the work of Epilepsy Society on Puritans radio.
