An Oxfordshire MP has written to CrossCountry as reductions in services are set to hit Oxford commuters.

Labour MP for Oxford East, Anneliese Dodds shared the letter on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday evening.

This comes as CrossCountry has reduced trains for three months to clear a backlog in driver training, which will impact Oxford commuters.

The letter started by saying: "I am writing to share the frustrations and difficulties facing my constituents as a result of your recent decision to reduce timetables for three months across the CrossCountry network.

"Those commuting and travelling from Oxford, Banbury, Birmingham or Manchester will now have to squeeze onto much reduced services.

"Many CrossCountry passengers from Oxford have already been suffering for a prolonged period from delays, cancellations and overcrowding.

"I appreciate that you have acknowledged that services have 'fallen below the standards our passengers should expect from us".

"I hope that you will now take action to remedy this."

Ms Dodds said she welcomes the Transport Secretary's decision to require CrossCountry to agree a Remedial Plan.

The plan contractualises CrossCountry's proposal for improvements and "crucially" ensures that there is no financial benefit to CrossCountry nor its owing group from operating fewer services.

The letter continued: "I understand that you will shortly be producing a letter detailing a timeline for the performance trajectory which you are able to guarantee passengers.

"I would be grateful to be sent a copy of that letter and be kept updated about the progress of your remedial plan."

Ms Dodds added that she would also be "grateful" if CrossCountry set out "exactly what mitigations" it will be implementing in Oxford to minimise disruption during this period and ensure passengers are aware of the timetable changes.
