A Chinese takeaway in Oxfordshire needing “urgent improvement” has been slapped with a zero food hygiene rating.
Sunrise in North Street in Bicester has been described by one Yelp reviewer as “the best takeaway in Bicester” as it has a “wide range of choices and more veggie options than any other local restaurant”.
Yet hygiene inspectors were less than impressed with what they found during their visit on Thursday, July 4.
Cherwell District Council’s Environmental Health team deemed that 'urgent improvement' was necessary and handed the establishment a shocking zero-out-of-five food hygiene rating.

One key issue was Sunrise’s management of food safety which was deemed to require ‘major improvement’ following the inspection.
This refers to having a system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat and if there is evidence that staff know about food safety.
It also concerns whether the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
Inspectors also said that the eatery’s cleanliness and condition of both the facilities and the building were in need of 'urgent improvement'.

This includes having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.
Improvement was also ‘necessary’ regarding the business’ hygienic food handling which refers to the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage of food.
The Oxford Mail has approached Sunrise for comment on the rating.
