A single mother whose home was blighted by bed bugs has been left with nasty bites and her possessions destroyed.

Brittany Georgia says her home in Abingdon, which is looked after by the Sovereign Housing Association, had been ridden with bed bugs for two months before she was relocated.

Pictures and video footage shared with the Oxford Mail show bedbugs in the wooden furniture, floorboards and mattress in the home.

The bedbugs have left Ms Georgia and her four-month-old baby with bites and rashes on their arms, legs and faces.

After living in the bedbug-infested property on Saxton Road, Ms Georgia, her baby and their dog were relocated into a Travelodge hotel in Oxford.

She claims she checked out four times in the hope of moving home but was unable to as she says the home was still crawling with bedbugs.

The mum was then moved into a first-floor flat in Magnette Close where she remains after first reporting the problem in May.

“On several occasions, I also had nowhere to stay as they didn’t even decant me properly either,” Ms Georgia said.

“I had to go wash all my clothes in the laundrette and I’m totally and utterly traumatised by all of this.

“I have hardly any possessions that aren’t ruined by the bed bugs. Every time I’ve gone back I’ve found loads.

"This has been going on for three months almost. I’ve been moved into a two-bed flat on the first floor with no lift and I’ve got a dog also.

“The only things I have are my clothes.  All of my possessions are ruined including my child’s buggy.”

The housing agency has said that specialists have cleared the home of the pests on two separate occasions and say that the property is now “pest-free”.

Both Ms Georgia's bed and her baby's cot have been replaced, the housing agency added.

A spokesperson for the Sovereign Network Group (SNG) said: “The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority.

“This is why we moved our customer from the property at Saxton Road in Abingdon to allow specialists to clear the home of the pests.

“This has now been done for a second time and meticulous checks have now been made to confirm the property is pest-free.

“The customer’s bed and cot have both been replaced with the costs met by SNG.

“SNG has worked with the customer to make sure she has suitable temporary housing at every stage.

“Our lettings team are working with the customer for the best outcome if she wishes to stay at the property in Magnette Close or return to Saxton Road.”
