THE sentencing of a man who admitted to several counts of theft and assaulting police officers has been delayed.

Juan Clarke, of no fixed abode, was due to be sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Monday (August 12) for two counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker, three counts of theft from a shop, one count of burglary and one count of criminal damage.

The 32-year-old pleaded guilty to the offences at the lower courts on July 22.

He was convicted of damaging a washing line between the value of £30 and £50 belonging to a woman in Oxford on May 10, stealing £69.86 of Yankee candles from Asda on May 16, and on May 20 he trespassed into Betfred in Cowley Road and stole £85 in cash.

On May 26, he stole £78 worth of Vodka from Tesco and on July 16 he stole a TV of an unknown value from Asda.

The two counts of beating an emergency worker involve two police officers on July 20.

Clarke’s case was sent to the higher court for sentencing on Monday.

However, it was decided that the case should be adjourned in order for some reports to be prepared ahead of the proceedings.

Clarke will now be sentenced at the same court later this year. He will remain in custody.
