A headteacher who has been described as “amazing” and is beloved by pupils has retired.

Ruth Leach has been at the head of St Blaise Church of England Primary School in Milton Heights for 13 years but called time on her career.

A popular figure within the school community, parents and students alike shared their appreciation for the stalwart teacher.

“Ruth Leach is the reason I wanted my child to attend St. Blaise School,” said parent Hayleigh, whose surname has not been disclosed.

“After attending the pre-school Red Dragon for two years I saw how amazing the school was and how welcoming Ruth was, I didn't want my child to attend anywhere else.

“This isn't just a school it's a family and that's all thanks to Ruth. She will be greatly missed.”

Another parent, Emma, added: “There are not enough words to describe how amazing Mrs Leach is.

“She never judges, has always been supportive, and has always made the effort to speak to you if needed.”

Mrs Leach penned a goodbye letter to the school and in it opened up about how much she has loved being in her role there over the last decade and more.

“Thank you to everyone who has been so kind and generous with words and gifts," she wrote.

“I have been incredibly touched by the love that I have been shown.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed reading my book and cards, the end of my time at St Blaise has been so special thanks to you all.

“I have been allowed to be myself; it is a rare and special place that allows this.

“Staff, pupils, parents and community have embraced difference, have celebrated people’s rights to be themselves and ensured that people are not judged but welcomed.

“It has been the greatest privilege to lead St Blaise. The staff are incredible. They are committed, creative and kind.

“I would like to thank them for their support and I will miss this comradery so very much.”

Mrs Leach signed off her farewell letter with a heartfelt goodbye as well as a request that her successor, Miss Costello, be given the same warm treatment.

“St Blaise School is an incredibly special place. I will miss the school, children and people so very much,” she added.

“It has been an absolute pleasure to have been the head, it will always have an enormous place in my heart, a second family. I leave to go and have new adventures and not be too worn out to enjoy them.
