THE sentencing of a woman accused of throwing hot water over a man in Banbury has been delayed.

Liza-Jane Spicer, of Merlin Close, Bodicote, was due to be sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Thursday (August 8) for one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Robert Lang.

She is accused of assaulting Mr Lang in Banbury on January 15 last year.

The 34-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence on the first day of her trial on July 20 on a basis of plea.

However, Judge Maria Lamb stated it was unclear whether the Crown Prosecution Service had contacted Mr Lang to see if he agreed with Spicer’s account.

Mr Lang’s written account stated Spicer had thrown a kettle towards him, causing hot water to burn his skin.

However, Spicer stated she had swiped a cup of coffee from the kitchen side during an argument which had then accidentally burnt Mr Lang.

The case, as a result, has been adjourned so a newton hearing can take place.

However, the CPS can indicate before that date in two weeks if they are content to continue to sentence with Spicer’s basis of plea.

If not, Spicer will next be due in court for the newton hearing on Monday, September 23.
