Train services between Charlbury and Moreton-in-Marsh will be unavailable from Monday (August 12) to Thursday (August 15) next week as rail improvement works take place.

Network Rail is replacing track on the North Cotswolds route, meaning replacement buses will operate between Charlbury and Moreton-in-Marsh.

However, trains will still operate between London Paddington and Charlbury via Oxford, and limited services will run between London Paddington and Hereford via Swindon.

Trains will also run between Moreton-in-Marsh and Worcester, Great Malvern and Hereford

Billy White, Great Western Railway (GWR) station manager for Oxford, Didcot and North Cotswolds, said: "This improvement work forms part of an ongoing programme of maintenance.

“GWR will provide rail replacement services between Charlbury and Moreton-in-Marsh, which will reduce the parking spaces available at those stations.

“For customers in the Moreton-in-Marsh area, the car park at Kingham station by contrast will have many more parking spaces available.

"Ticket acceptance has also been agreed to enable customers to travel on other train services between London and Worcester, Great Malvern or Hereford."

He cautioned passengers alternative travel arrangements would result in longer journey times.

Mark Parker, lead portfolio manager for Network Rail, added: "Track renewals are an essential part of maintaining the railway and our work is vital to provide smooth and safe journeys.

"We’re sorry for the disruption this will cause and thank passengers for their patience."
