Oxfordshire is one of the best counties in the UK to find buried treasure, according to new research.

The study, which analysed government data from 2012 to 2023, placed it in 10th for the most treasure finds, recording a total of 417 finds.

Norfolk topped the list, boasting 1,201 discoveries in the 11 year period, likely due to its rich history dating back to the Iceni tribe, ancient Britons who lived in the area before the Roman conquest.

Following in second and third were Suffolk and Essex, with 776 and 709 finds respectively, suggesting the East of England is a prime location for hidden riches.

Suffolk, like Norfolk, was part of the Anglo-Saxon Kingdom of East Anglia, a region frequently raided by Vikings.
