A PAEDOPHILE has been jailed for a third time after being caught hiding links to child pornography inside his mother’s crocheting files.

David Jones, 36, was caught hiding links to websites containing indecent images of children inside a laptop folder dedicated to his mother’s crocheting achievements in July this year.

He had been using his parent’s laptop to access the indecent material despite a court order preventing him from being allowed to use the device.

His father called the police and Jones was arrested and brought before Oxford Crown Court on Tuesday (August 6) for sentencing.

Judge Ian Pringle handed Jones a 22-month jail sentence for five breaches of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

Jones, formerly of St Nicholas Road, Oxford, was first sentenced in 2017 for possessing indecent images of children and again in 2018.

He was first jailed for 2020 for 16 months for the same offence – the images included girls aged between seven and 14.

Two years later, Jones was jailed again for using a PlayStation4 to access indecent pornography material online.

In July this year, he was caught using his parent’s white HP laptop after sneaking it out of a drawer and ‘guessing’ the password while he was home alone.

However, his father caught him in the act and alerted officers who seized the device and arrested Jones.

An analysis of the laptop was not carried out but Jones had admitted he was looking at ‘bad stuff but not the worst’.

It was discovered he had been trying to access the dark web as well as making searches for ‘pre-teens’ and chatrooms.

He then saved links sent to him in chat rooms ‘indicative of further access to indecent material’ in a folder dedicated to his mother’s crocheting achievements.

Defending Jones, his barrister explained that his client was ‘embarrassed’ and wants to ‘apologise and acknowledge the hurt caused’ to his parents.

He said to his client’s credit that Jones had been honest about his ‘addiction’ and knows there was ‘nothing to dissuade’ a judge from a custodial sentence.

“I’ve said if he carries on he’ll be yo-yoing in and out of prison into his 40s,” said the barrister.

The court heard that Jones has been asked to leave his parent’s home as a result of his latest offending.

Sentencing, Judge Pringle said: “There’s only one sentencing I’m going to pass and that’s one of immediate imprisonment.”

Jones received 22 months on each breach count to run concurrently.

The SHPO remains in place until further order.
