THE sentencing of a young man caught stealing £240 headphones has been delayed.

Keane Neal, 25, was due to be sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Friday (August 2) for one count of robbery and two counts of attempted robbery.

He was caught on July 29 last year stealing headphones to the value of £240 from William Marron.

On the same day, he attempted to rob Shaun Mordey and Ashton Belcher of two bags to an unknown value.

Neal pleaded guilty to the offences at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on June 4 and the case was sent to Oxford Crown Court for sentence.

However, Neal failed to attend a meeting with the probation service in order for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.

Speaking at the hearing on Friday, Neal’s defence barrister Peter De Feu explained that his client was unwell at the time of the meeting having testing positive for coronavirus along with several family members.

“He understands it would be the last chance for him,” Mr De Feu added after mentioning a new meeting has been set up for Neal.

Recorder Alexander McGregor agreed to adjourn the sentencing, adding that it was ‘unsatisfactory’ the defendant had missed the meeting but said he will give him a ‘further chance’ to comply.

Neal, of Howard Cornish Road, Marcham, will now be sentenced at the same court on October 1.
