Anne-Marie Coleman had every right to blow her own trumpet.
The nine-year-old cornet player from Leafield Road, Cowley, had been chosen as Oxford Silver Band’s best beginner of 1985.
She was awarded the Marinus Wolff trophy when the band gave a concert at its hall in Temple Cowley.

She had been performing for just eight months and was on the brink of promotion from the beginners to the training band.
Anne-Marie’s six-year-old sister Lucy had also started to learn the cornet, determined to match her big sister. Their mother, Hilary Coleman, said: “Lucy is determined to live up to Anne-Marie’s example and win the trophy for herself.”
