TWO people were reportedly almost killed by a man in Oxford, a court has heard.

Ibraheem Shan, 25, appeared in Oxford Crown Court on Thursday (August 1) charged with two counts of attempted murder.

It is alleged that on January 22, he attempted to murder Terence Mabiza and on January 30, he attempted to murder Obvious Kamanga.

Shan, of Standing Way, Eaglestone, has also been charged with one count of assault an emergency worker, a police officer, on January 21 and two counts of assault by beating on January 21 and January 27.

The defendant denied all the offences at the plea and trial preparation hearing.

During the proceedings, his defence barrister explained that Shan was ‘unwell’ and ‘poorly’ at the time of the alleged offences and was ‘suffering from a mental episode’.

She states his family have ‘confirmed’ this.

She had applied to have his plea and trial preparation hearing adjourned in order for a report to be prepared by a psychiatrist to determine is a defence of insanity can be put forward.

However, a doctor had concluded that Shan was fit to plea and to stand trial so it was asked Shan plea.

A report will be prepared in the meantime.

His trial, which is expected to last two to three weeks, is scheduled for August 18 next year.
