Plans have been included to expand an Oxfordshire school’s sports centre adding tennis courts and an artificial cricket wicket.

The proposal to redevelop the Dewey Sports Centre at Bloxham School includes five new tennis courts, which can also be used for netball, as well as an extension to the building itself.

The proposed extension would provide a fully equipped gym and fitness suite, a multi-purpose teaching room, two new changing rooms, as well as staff and referee changing facilities.

Under the plans, 12 lighting columns would be installed on the two artificial pitches allowing for a greater use of the existing artificial pitches for the school and wider community in winter months and early evenings.

The plans would also see the existing rugby pitches repositioning and its long jump pit replaced.

A planning document reads: “The modernisation of the Dewey building will provide a central focal point for the school’s sporting activities, providing a welcoming and secure new entrance that segregates pupils and visitors.”

If the plans were approved, additional car parking would be provided and the widening of the internal access road to alleviate problems with the flow of traffic entering and leaving the site.

The proposals also include a new lift to make the first floor accessible to all as well as a pedestrian and pupil footpath to the building entrance and the sports fields and pitches.
