THE next court hearing for a woman accused of owning two mixed-breed XL bullies dogs which allegedly injured someone has taken place.

A young person was reportedly injured by the young dogs at a property in Baynhams Drive, Oxford, on October 12 last year.

A 38-year-old woman, Sarah Hopkins, has now been charged with being the person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control.

She is accused of being the owner of a black and white XL bully mix called Harley, who was seven-months-old at the time, and a brown and white XL bully mix called Hennessey, who was 16-months-old at the time.

Hopkins, of Baynhams Drive, Oxford, appeared at Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (July 30) for her plea and trial preparation hearing.

However, the case has been referred for a review which will take place at the same court on August 15.

XL bullies were banned in the UK from December 31 last year and it has been a criminal offence to own the breed since February 1 this year without an exemption certificate.

This followed a number of attacks and deaths linked to the breed across the country.

Police can seize unregistered prohibited dogs, and their owners face a criminal record and unlimited fine.

If guilty of this offence, Hopkins could face a prison sentence or/and a fine.
