Staff from an Oxford school's PE department have climbed the UK's three tallest mountains in 24 hours.

The team from Oxford Spires Academy conquered Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon last Thursday (July 25) in an effort to raise money for their school.

The funds raised from their National Three Peaks Challenge will be spent on buying PE equipment and bringing wall art to life.

The team set up a GoFundMe page and have raised more than £3,100, exceeding their £2,750 target.

Craig Green, who organised the event, said: "By taking part in this challenge, we are showcasing to our students how impactful PE can be and demonstrating our motto of ‘sport for all for life'.

"Thank you to everyone who has supported our Three Peaks Challenge fundraiser so far.

"Your generosity is helping us bring inspiring new wall art and additional equipment to the Oxford Spires Academy PE department."

The total walking distance is 23 miles and the total ascent is 3,064 metres - twice the ascent of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, over a similar total walking distance.

Louise Cowley, headteacher of Oxford Spires Academy, said: “I am immensely proud of our dedicated PE department for taking on the Three Peaks Challenge.

“I am so inspired by our team's passion and dedication to enriching the lives of our students."
